WHAT TO MAKE ON EID DAY/ EID SPECIAL RECIPES

Festival celebrations are incomplete without delicious food. The dishes made, the ingredients used and the method of cooking differ from region to region and festival to festival but the spirit of serving good food and celebrating with family and friends is the common thread that binds all together.

On festival days, an assortment of delicacies are made and served for family and friends. I am giving below some of the most delicious dishes that we make on Eid day. You can click on the links to get the recipe. I am sure you will have a wonderful time enjoying these…

Breakfast recipes

Kheema Samosa

Samosas made of whole wheat flour and stuffed with spicy and delicious kheema (minced meat) mix.

Kheema parathas/ Ceylon parathas

Kheema filled between two whole wheat rotis and sealed using egg mixture. Surely a Must try!!

Chicken/ Mutton macaroni

Macaroni boiled and mixed in spicy mutton/ chicken gravy.

This is a very easy to cook recipe that gets done in about 15 minutes.

Lunch recipes

Biryani

This is a must have on Eid day.  This delicious dish can be cooked in about half an hour. Here we have used a pressure cooker to create 'dum' for the biryani. This ensures that flavour and aroma are intact and the biryani comes out perfect.

Fried chicken/ Chicken 65

A perfect side dish for Biryani. We usually use boneless chicken pieces, mix them well with ready made Chicken 65 masala, refrigerate for nearly 24 hours and finally deep fry it in oil.

Khatte baingan/ Sour brinjal gravy

Khatte Baingan is a very popular Brinjal (Eggplant/ Aubergine) delicacy served throughout the country. The recipe of this dish varies from region to region. Some recipes call for curds but we prepare this dish using tomatoes and tamarind.

Mutton kabab

Delicious and spicy mutton kabab cooked on the stove top. This is very easy to make and can be prepared in about 15 minutes.

Shami kabab (minced meat cutlets)

Shami kabab is a delicious and flavourful variety of kabab made using minced meat (Kheema) and bengal gram dal.

Sweet recipes

Faluda

Faluda is a delicious and traditional dessert that is very easy to make. Variations to this can be made by adding condensed milk, essence or fruits to make it even more delicious. But this tastes perfect and can be had as it is.

Caramel custard pudding/ Egg pudding

Caramel custard pudding or caramel egg pudding is a very delicious and popular dessert around the world. The pudding is steamed hence there is no oil used. With just 3 ingredients that are available in every Indian home, this dessert can easily be prepared.

Egg halwa/ Ande ka halwa

Egg halwa is a delicious and simple sweet that is easy to cook and tastes delicious. It is perfect sweet for festivals and family gatherings.

Gulam jamun

Gulab jamun is commonly made using khoya, flour and sugar and flavoured with rose water or cardamom powder. For Eid we usually prepare gulab jamuns using gulab jamun mixes as they are easily available and save time and effort. The gulab jamuns are ready in less than an hour and taste delicious.

Basundi

Basundi is a very popular sweet made using milk, rice, sugar and condensed milk along with plenty of dry fruits and nuts. It is commonly served during festivals, weddings, and other celebrations. This is one of the most favoured sweets at my home.

Dinner recipes

Roti or chapathi is usually made for dinner and served with Mutton Kheema or Chicken Kofta curry.

Semiya (Idiyappam/ String hoppers) is usually served with Mutton paaya curry. The curry is slightly spicy and has a soup like consistency.
