Chana sundal is a delicious and nutritious snack made using chickpeas. It is slightly tempered with masalas, onions and mustard seeds and is a perfect snack you can turn to on a busy day. If the chickpeas are boiled and ready, then it needs just about 10 minutes to assemble this stir fry.
Ingredients
1 cup kabuli chana/ chickpeas
4 tbsp oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
Pinch of asafoetida
10 to 15 curry leaves
1 large onion finely chopped
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 tbsp cumin powder
1 tsp garam masala powder
½ tsp salt
Method
- Soak the chana in water for about 8 hours.
- Pressure cook the chana with water and 1 tsp salt for 7 to 8 whistles.
- Drain the excess water from the chana ad keep ready.
- Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds.
- When the seeds start sputtering add curry leaves, asafoetida, and onions.
- Saute till the onions turn soft.
- Next add red chilli powder, salt, cumin powder and garam masala powder and mix well.
- Add the boiled chana and toss well with the masalas for about 2 minutes.
- Serve hot.
I love sundal and we often have it as an snack. I also add chana dal and urad dal for a crunch. I have not tried it with the chick peas though. Thanks for sharing.
